Police have arrested an unlicensed taxi driver for hitting four cars while fleeing from police in Zhabei district last month, local media reported Sunday.
The suspect, surnamed Yu, was charged with endangering public security, according to a report in the Xinmin Evening News.
On February 10, police encountered a suspected clone taxi at the intersection of Tianmu Road West and Minli Road, the report said.
It was unclear whether police had stopped Yu's car, but at some point he fled the scene.
Yu hit four cars during his getaway, including one police car, the report said.
After examining surveillance video footage of the area, police found Yu had fled to Shimen'er Road in Jing'an district. He then removed his license plates to avoid police pursuit, the report said. He took the South-North Elevated Road to Baoshan district, where police lost track of his car near the intersection of Lianyi Road West and Shengxin Road.
Police later found the car in a parking lot on Shengxin Road. They arrested Yu at a construction site in Pudong New Area on March 14.
Yu said he bought the car secondhand. Its license plate was counterfeit.
