Hong Kong Customs Wednesday announced that 5.5 kg of ketamine at a market value of about 660, 000 HK dollars (about 85,052 US dollars) were seized on Tuesday.
Customs officers intercepted two men in a shopping arcade in Mong Kok Tuesday afternoon and found a total of 5.5 kg of ketamine in their shoulder bag and backpack. The two men were arrested.
The two arrestees, aged 19 and 22, were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars. (1 US dollar = 7.76 HK dollars)
