The top disciplinary body of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday called for tight disciplinary inspection around the upcoming May Day holiday.
Officials will be punished for breaches of the eight-point anti-bureaucracy and waste guidelines announced by the central authorities, according to a statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).
The CCDI has asked officials at various levels to duly implement the "eight-point" guidelines during the holiday.
Excessive spending on receptions, using public money for recreational trips, giving and receiving gifts on public expenditure during the holiday are strictly prohibited, said the statement.
Discipline agencies at all levels are urged to strengthen supervision and expose cases in a timely manner, according to the statement.
The public and media oversight on the official extravagance is encouraged, the statement said.
