Drunk calls cops to settle bet

Wenzhou police punished a man who called in a false alarm to win a drunken bet with buddies to see who could invite the most important guest to their gathering on Sunday.

Officers in Ouhai district were not amused when Lin, a factory worker, admitted to lying to emergency operators that a violent fight was about to break out in their restaurant.

They were even less enthused when Lin offered them a drink.

"Those guys who wanted to fight have already left. Officers, thank you so much for your hard work. Have a drink with us," said Lin.

Lin was penalized for misuse of the 110 emergency system.

"The officers would not have come if I had just invited them," explained Lin.
