The 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' meeting will be held in the second half of the year at Yanqi Lake, Huairou district. During the meeting, the Beijing government will implement joint control of air quality with neighboring provinces, to match the standards utilized during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Beijing News reported.
Zhuang Zhidong, the deputy director of Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, said that the emphasis will be upon air quality, including reducing emissions and factory production. "We are now making further plans and including more officials from nearby local governments to discuss the countermeasures," he said. Furthermore, a base for monitoring air quality will be set up.
