Metro Line 1 was delayed for 15 minutes during morning rush hour Tuesday after a woman jumped onto the subway tracks at Wenshui Road Station, local media reported. The woman was unharmed.
Around 7:12 am, the unidentified 35-year-old passenger climbed over the platform rail, jumped down onto the tracks and began running south toward Shanghai Circus World Station, according to the news website xinmin.cn.
The station's staff immediately stopped the trains on the line and contacted police, the report said. Metro employees pulled the woman off the tracks around 7:30 am when she arrived at Shanghai Circus World Station.
Train service on Line 1 returned to normal around 8:45 am.
Police were investigating Tuesday whether the woman suffered from a mental illness.
