A college student who was robbed of his cheap, knock-off cell phone soon found he got the better deal when the thief dropped a very real iPhone 5 as he fled on Thursday.
The victim, surnamed Jin, refused requests from the thief to return the dropped Apple phone after a short chase nearby South China Normal University, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
"I think it's really funny. My mobile phone is a fake and worth no more than 1,000 yuan ($160). I just picked up his phone and gave up chasing him," said Jin.
The thief quickly realized he lost his more expensive phone, but failed to catch Jin.
The quick-footed student later called his phone, which the thief answered and pleaded to make an exchange.
"He even sent me his address so I could have it express delivered," said Jin.
After a few more unsuccessful attempts to contact the robber, Jin decided to hand the iPhone 5 over to police.
"[The thief] had said he had already sent my phone back, but who knows whether he really did it," said Jin.
