Senior leader wants long-term anti-decadence campaign

A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has ordered persistent efforts from Party members to eradicate decadent behavior.

Liu Yunshan, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while inspecting companies, villages and communities in northeast China's Liaoning Province, the country's long-time industrial base, on Monday and Tuesday.

Stressing industry as the cornerstone of a country's national economy, Liu called for deepening reform to upgrade various industrial operations so as to boost their competitiveness.

He urged Party members and organizations to play a key role in this reform, as part of China's ongoing "mass-line" campaign.

Launched in June 2013, this is aimed at making the government more accessible to the public, while cleaning up undesirable work styles -- formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and extravagance.

Liu urged Party members to bear in mind the ultimate goals of the campaign, which are to boost the Party's development, push forward reform and benefit the people.

Leading Party officials should set an example for others in striving to better themselves and serving the people wholeheartedly, he said.

The second phase of the mass line campaign is scheduled to run from January to September, targeting more low-level departments and leaderships, while the first phase was focused on central and provincial-level departments.
