The Hong Kong Transport and Housing Bureau has announced the results of an internal investigation into the Lamma Island Ferry disaster in 2012. It says 17 Marine Department officials may be punished for misconduct.
The Bureau says 55 Marine Department officials were investigated. The investigation team accused 17 of the officials, including 13 serving and four retired, of misconduct while discharging their duties. The investigating team has recommended formal disciplinary proceedings against seven of the 13 serving officers and warnings against the remaining six.
The Bureau says it has provided the full report to the police to assist their investigation, which is still ongoing. 39 people were killed after a passenger vessel collided with a ferry off Hong Kong's Lamma Island in October, 2012. Both captains were charged with several counts of manslaughter.
