Taiwan's disease control authority on Friday confirmed the island's fourth imported case of H7N9 bird flu to be a 39-year-old Taiwanese businessman returning from the Chinese mainland.
The authority said the patient developed symptoms including fever and breathing difficulty on April 19.
He was not exposed to poultry during his trip to Beijing and Jiangsu Province between March 31 and April 19.
The patient is being treated in an intensive care unit, while those in close contact with him had not shown signs of infection, the authority said.
The island has reported four imported H7N9 cases since April last year, including the fatality of a tourist from Jiangsu province.
