Intestinal and stomach ailments triggered by a norovirus infection were recently reported in local primary and middle schools, the Beijing News reported.
In late March, the parent of a child enrolled at Modern MOMA International Kindergarten said that 20 kids developed symptoms of vomiting and were later diagnosed by the Beijing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as having the norovirus infection. The center last week confirmed that the norvoirus epidemic has hit local schools, with children around the age of 6 and 7 being the most vulnerable. Symptoms usually disappear within three days. The CDC warned parents and children that the disease can be transmitted through contaminated food or physical contact.
