Changping district is aiming to reduce the ratio of its non-Beijing residents to below 50 percent in the next few years, the Beijing Times reported.
Changping, which is home to several wholesale markets for construction materials and farming produce, has a population of 1,880,000 people, of which 53 percent are non-Beijing residents. Most reside in the residential communities of Huilongguan, Tianlongyuan, Shahe and Beiqijia; some low-income migrants live in
Illegal buildings at the urban-rural junctions. The local government said it will upgrade the industry structure to control the growing number of non-Beijing residents.
