Chengdu leads internet innovation in central and western China

Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, is the only city in China's central and western regions to make the top 10 in terms of internet innovation and entrepreneurship, according to rankings issued by Tencent's open platform.

Based on the earnings of third party developers from the open platform from March 2013 to March 2014, the list ranks Chengdu 10th. The top three are Beijing, Guangzhou and Haikou.

"Leading internet enterprises in Chengdu focus on online games, in accordance with the city's development strategy." said an official from the Tencent open platform.

He added that Chengdu developers have branched out into internet finance, automotive applications, location systems, mobile health care and mobile education.

"Internet innovation indicates the innovation ability of the city," he said. "We found the developers in Chengdu young, creative, positive and pragmatic."

To aid internet innovation and entrepreneurship in the city, Tencent opened its second entrepreneurial base there in November last year, immediately after opening its first base in Beijing.

Located in Chengdu Tianfu Software Park, the base provides internet entrepreneurs with not only technical and platform support, but also preferential policies related to finance, office space and human resources.
