The Philippine government has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to exert maximum efforts in tracking down and bringing to justice the attackers of the Chinese nationals who were reportedly involved in a shooting incident Friday night, a senior government official said Sunday.

Philippine Communications secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said the government is committed to ensuring the safety of visiting tourists in the country.

Police Chief Ruben Theodore Sindac said at around 11:30 pm of May 2, Chinese nationals Chen Lijun and Zhao Zhijun, both of the China Airlines which is based in China's Taiwan, were attacked in a shooting incident that transpired along Balagtas St., at the boundary of Pasay City and Manila City.

Sindac said Chen died at the hospital while Zhao was injured and is still being treated at the Manila Doctors Hospital.

Initial police report said the victims were onboard a vehicle and had been shot at and robbed.
