Shanghai tourism has spiked at many of the city's scenic locations during the May Day break. Popular destinations include the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower for some spectacular views of the city.
By nine o'clock in the morning, there was a long line of people outside the ticket window at the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium in Lujiazui.
The aquarium is hosting an exhibition of African aquatic creatures and visitors were treated to a special African welcome.
Many people looking for a good view of the city made a trip to the Oriental Pearl TV Tower today. Standing on the glass floor 260 meters above the ground gives many an adrenaline rush.
The tower says it was expecting around 250,000 visitors on Sunday, 25 percent more than normal. The nearby Shanghai World Financial Center was also busy. The view attracted many visitors including a Portuguese man who went there several years ago before the center was completed.
"So this time you came back and visited the building to see the view. Because in the past, it was just under construction and now you visit to see the great view of Shanghai," said the visitor Jorge Angoa.
Nearly 10,000 people had visited the Center by 7:30 this evening, three times the normal number.
