Nearly 100 paintings of Huang Zhou (1925-97), a great 20th-century painter, are on display at the Yan-Huang Art Museum, which he founded in Beijing in 1991.
The works come from private collections, and the museum's possession include these that fetched high prices at auction and that mark important moments in Huang's art career.
Huang enriched the art vocabulary of traditional ink-and-wash painting by employing the sketch techniques of Western painting. He formed a distinctive art language by portraying people of ethnic minorities and magnificent landscapes, which can be appreciated through such signature works on show as Missing Chairman Mao and Going to School.
The exhibition runs through May 7.
