In his recent book, Chinese banker Hang Chen, shares his experiences setting up a Chinese bank branch in South Korea in his book, Hanguo Suiyue Hua Jinrong (lit. Talking about finance in South Korea).
A review of the book by the Economic Information Daily calls the book an authentic, objective and comprehensive look at the finance industry in South Korea.
As the chief representative of China Construction Bank in Seoul since 1996, Hang witnessed first-hand the establishment of the branch, which he details in his book, including studies on local law and accounting standards and how to put them into practice, how his team chose the location for the branch and the numerous negotiations and alliances he had with local accountants and lawyers.
In addition to his nine years working on the front-line of the finance industry, Hang's experiences with the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 and other significant political and economic changes provide his book with a unique view of Asia's recent financial history.
Hang concludes the book by discussing how to adjust to the local financial environment in South Korea.
The book is now being used as a textbook for staff by the Bank of China, China Merchants Bank and many other commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions.
