More than 400 vehicles and 1,500 people were stranded when a rockfall blocked a national highway in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said local police on Wednesday.
The rocks fell onto a stretch of National Highway 314 between Akto county in the Kirgiz autonomous prefecture of Kizilsu and Shufu county in Kashgar at 10 a.m. Wednesday, said Akto border police.
A truck was hit by the rocks but the driver jumped off and was unharmed. No casualties were reported.
Police and road workers are removing the debris.
The highway starts from Xinjiang's capital Urumqi and is the major route into Pakistan.
