60 villagers injured in land requisition dispute

More than 60 villagers in Shanxi province were injured on Tuesday evening while trying to protect their land from being seized.

The villagers were attacked on their land by more than 100 unidentified men in Xiaxian county in the city of Yuncheng, where the land is scheduled to be requisitioned by the government for an airport project, Xinhua News Agency reported.

About 10 people were seriously injured, and more than 10 vehicles were destroyed during the clash, the report said.

As of 9 pm on Wednesday night, 26 villagers remained in hospitals receiving medical treatment.

The government has started an investigation of the incident.
