Xi's keynote speech at CICA summit receives high praises

The fourth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) concluded in Shanghai on Wednesday. Chinese President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the summit, which calls for a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security strategy for Asia, has attracted worldwide attention.

During the interview with the People's Daily, some foreign experts and scholars said Xi's speech addresses the need to innovate in the security concept, establish a new regional security cooperation architecture, and emphasizes the universality, equality and inclusiveness of security. It is conducive to maintain security throughout the region.

Xi's keynote speech at the summit is pragmatic and comprehensive, with strong guidance and operability, said Vadim Evseev, director with Russia's social and political research center. Asian situation is complex and it faces diverse challenges. To achieve regional peace and stability, we must strengthen dialogue, trust and cooperation, Evseev told the People's Daily. Xi emphasized the commonality and inclusiveness of security and it is conductive to maintaining security of the entire Asia, he added.

Xi's keynote speech at the CICA summit has systematically illustrated the meaning of Asian security concept and it is of significant importance for building a peaceful, prosperous and stable Asia, said Oh Ei Sun, senior fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at Nanyang Technological University.

Oh Ei Sun said that President Xi's keynote speech is very impressive. Firstly, President Xi noted that Asian affairs ultimately rely on Asian people, which is essential for building region security and peace in Asia today. Secondly, Asia needs to promote a sustainable security and development. Economic sustainable development is the premise of security and peace. Thirdly, President Xi stressed the maintenance of traditional and non-traditional security in his speech.

A Kazakhstan expert on international issues believes that Xi's keynote speech is of great importance and well-directed to Asian affairs. He said that President Xi advocates a security concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable Asia. It will help Asian countries to recognize the situation and challenges. It also has practical significance in promoting cooperation between countries and jointly dealing with security threats and maintaining peace and stability in Asia.

European Policy Centre analyst Andrea Francois says Xi's keynote speech is very constructive with consideration of the reality and history. Only with a clear understanding and analysis of the problems, can one give solutions.

Maestro, a Spanish expert on China said the new Asian security concept President Xi proposed fully takes the diversity and practical development of Asia into consideration, suggesting a practical way for the strengthened security cooperation in Asia in the future.
