News and photos from an extravagant wedding in Zhongshan, South China's Guangdong province, went viral Saturday on WeChat and Sina Weibo, two popular social networking sites in China.

The bride wore gold ornaments weighing dozens of kilos for the wedding ceremony, including three necklaces strung with about 70 bracelets. The bridegroom also wore seven to eight gold necklaces. The wedding motorcade was composed of luxury sports cars, including Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Maseratis.

It was confirmed by Nanfang Metropolis Daily that the bride's father, Mr. Li, used to be the general manager of Shaxi Township Water Supply Company of the city. He is now retired. Talking about the wedding, Mr. Li said that he didn't favor the extravagance either, and the gold ornaments worn by the bride were not given by him as dowries.

The bridegroom is a foreign national, who helps his father run real estate, decoration and liquor businesses in Zhongshan.

Rumors are that the bridegroom is a second generation descendent of the founder of Lihe Group, a famous real estate business based on Zhongshan. On May 25, Lihe Group held a news conference to clear up the confusion. Given that the news post has seriously impacted the company, Lihe Group said that it briefed a lawyer to order the local website , which released the news, to delete the post, clear things up, make a public apology and pay compensation. By 4 pm, zscity.com had deleted the post, and it has promised to issue a public apology on its website later.
