The mutant superhero movie "X-Men: Days of Future Past" took in 252 million yuan (about $40.4 million) in its opening weekend to become the most successful film in China in the week ending May 25.
The second spot went to Zhang Yimou's "Coming Home," which raked in 124 million yuan during the week, according to a China Film News report on Tuesday.
The action-adventure "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," a box office champion in the previous week, came in third with 67 million yuan. Its total ticket sales have hit 572 million yuan since it opened on May 4.
"The Great Hypnotist," a thriller starring "Lost in Thailand" lead Xu Zheng, took the fourth place with 20.6 million yuan in the week.
Coming in fifth place was "My Old Classmate," a love story between two university classmates, with 14.6 million yuan.
