An official with the Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals (BAH) said that 21 municipal-level hospitals in Beijing will be allocated money to upgrade their security system.

The hospital staff will be equipped with tools including anti-stab vest, batons and pole restraining devices, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.

Bian Baosheng, deputy director of BAH, said that it is essential to strengthen anti-terrorism awareness in hospitals which are highly populated.

Bian noted that hospitals should also pay more attention to the protection of drugs and radioactive substances that are found in hospitals.

All hospitals are required to meet the new security standards by the middle of June.

Beijing Anzhen Hospital in Chaoyang district has already instituted a high-resolution video surveillance system.

The faces of thieves and people who threaten hospital staff will be recording in a face recognition system.
