The Confucius Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia on Wednesday organized the 13th Chinese Bridge Chinese proficiency competition for Cambodian college students.

Ten Cambodian finalists, including 7 females, who have been selected from dozens of candidates, were contested in the final stage on Wednesday afternoon at the Asia-Euro University.

Each contestant was given a three-minute talk on the topic "The story of me and the Confucius Institute" combined with their own understanding of Chinese culture, and they were also required to show their talents in mastering Chinese music and arts.

As a result, the top prize was awarded to Huang Jinling, a female-student at the Asia-Euro University.

Chea Monirith, director of the Confucius Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said the contest gave an opportunity to Cambodian students to show their courage and knowledge in Chinese language and culture.

"A winner will represent Cambodia to join a competition in China with other candidates from other countries around the world (in July)," he said.

"The winner will not only have a chance to visit China, but also help promote Cambodia' prestige on international arena."

Advisor to the Council of Ministers Duong Leang, rector of the Asia-Euro University, which co-organized the event, said the Chinese Bridge is an excellent program that gives opportunities to non-Chinese native students to visit and study in China.

The event was sponsored by the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia.
