The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee will require all localities and organizations to enlist new Party members in a "prudent" and "balanced" manner, according to new rules published by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee late Tuesday.
The latest edition of detailed rules for recruiting new CPC members updated the previous version, which was effective for 24 years. According to a statement issued with the rules, many new circumstances and new problems have emerged in the enlistment of new members, rendering the old version no longer suitable.
The new rules also stipulated that efforts should be made to control the overall size of the Party and to improve the structure and quality of the Party.
At a meeting of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau held on Jan. 28, 2013, Party organizations across the country were asked to build a force of "moderate scale, reasonable structure, sound quality, strict discipline and outstanding work style."
"Some Party organs are not strict with enlisting members and the quality of members who are recruited needs improvement," said an official statement issued following the meeting.
