China, Tanzania pledge closer security cooperation

China's top security official Meng Jianzhu met in Beijing on Tuesday with visiting Tanzanian Minister for Home Affairs Mathias Chikawe, agreeing to facilitate closer law enforcement cooperation.

Meng, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said China and Tanzania respect, trust and support each other since the forging of diplomatic ties 50 years ago.

He urged both countries to further enhance security cooperation, and take effective measures to ensure safety of each other's citizens and institutions, to offer a sound environment for the development of China-Tanzania all-round cooperation partnership.

Chikawe said Tanzania expects to enhance security cooperation with China, to jointly fight against various kinds of transnational crimes and maintain normal order of bilateral trade and personnel exchanges.
