The Beijing government has kicked off a program to restore 52 ancient villages in 13 districts, including Lingshui village in Mentougou district, Jiaozhuanghu village in Shunyi district and Shuiyu village in Fangshan district, the Beijing Youth Daily reported.
The government will also set up 52 document files to record the villages' basic information. An anonymous official with the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage said that officials will focus on protecting national heritage, historical buildings and intangible heritage in these villages. According to the official, they will neither demolish things in the villages nor build new things in the village.
