Drunk World Cup fan wakes up sealed in store

A soccer fan was accidentally sealed in his own store by workers during a city renovation project in Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region after drinking himself unconscious while watching a World Cup match.

Firefighters pried away the wall of freshly-lain bricks at the store's entrance on Monday, where the unnamed man had fallen asleep after a late night out drinking with friends and watching live broadcasts of the tournament.

Matches are shown after midnight due to the time difference in host nation Brazil.

His wife told rescuers she began to worry after not hearing from her husband for more than 10 hours. When he finally answered his cell phone, he spoke incoherently.

Subsequent calls to her husband's friends soon revealed he was extremely drunk when they parted ways and told the group he was heading home to sleep.

However, it turns out he ended up passing out in his store, where the slowly-sobering man eventually realized his situation and called his wife.

Rescuers had to destroy the new wall and cut through a locked roller shutter in order to reach the man in his small, windowless shop.

Local authorities reminded fans to drink responsibly.
