Chinese weather authorities are forecasting an El Nino weather event which is expected to hit some regions of China by mid-summer and will strengthen toward the fall and winter.
According to the experts, El Nino would reduce the frequency of typhoons--leading to major drought problems for many parts of China. That may mean bad news for farmers growing crops in the summer season. The forecast is similar to warnings from other weather bureaus in Japan and the United States.
This will be the first time El Nino has appeared in five years.
