A family of four were killed when a primary school building collapsed Friday in east China's Jiangxi Province.
The four -- two grandparents and two grandchildren -- were sleeping in the two-story teaching building of the school in Dangkou Village, Yihuang County when a landslide flattened it at around 1 am.
The teacher was taking his turn to tend the school. Rescuers were still clearing the debris.
Downpours started in Jiangxi Monday, with about 212,000 people affected as of Friday. Over 3,000 people have been relocated.
As of Friday noon, floods had destroyed 73 homes and damaged 12,000 hectares of farmlands, 2,200 hectares of which have been completely destroyed. Direct economic losses are estimated at about 860,000 yuan (138,000 US dollars).
