Shanghai exhibition focuses on the modern woman

A unique show in Shanghai gathered by 16 talented female artists combines modern art and fashion, with an eye on today's confident woman.

Roses, bows and hound's tooth patterns always represent femininity, but in the art world their meanings can be extended further.

A global perfume giant has also set up a stage for female artists to redefine the best modern quality.

"We want to extend the artistic search by inviting those great female artists. We want the audience to know that the good qualities such as determination, confidence, elegance and free spirit, etc. is shared in all fields," said CEO of Parfums Christian Dior Claude Martinez.

There's a huge luminous bow at the exhibition. Unlike traditional ones made from fibers, this one is combined with green technology, with LED lights within the perfume bottles.

Artist Joana Vasconcelos is the person who made this magic happen. "This is a technological bow unlike the traditional ones. It is a way to represent modern femininity. Also I made it huge because I want to this bow like perfume's lightness and suspended in the space," Vasconcelos said.

The Portuguese artist works a lot with femininity. She says nowadays women are more active than before, and that her work is designed to put a new twist on elegance and confidence.

With their growing status in the art world, Chinese artists have also joined this unique exhibition.

"Combining art and products is not very common in China. Through this cooperation, I think various forms of art and cooperation between artists and brands still have a lot of space for growth here," photographer Liu Lijie said.

The "Miss Dior" exhibition will last till July 20.
