The amount of drugs seized by customs in south China's Guangdong province increased more than six fold in the first five months to reach 909 kg, said local customs authorities.
Guangdong customs cracked 129 trafficking cases and arrested 80 suspects from January to May, an increase of 111 percent and 77 percent year-on-year, Guangdong General Customs Administration said.P The amount seized, including methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana, increased 666 percent year-on-year.
Since the campaign started last August, Guangdong customs have handled 248 trafficking cases, seized nearly 1.1 tonnes of drugs and arrested 171 suspects.
Guangdong has strengthened anti-narcotics cooperation with Australia, New Zealand, the United States as well as Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.
