Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to harshly crack down on drug-related crimes and to contain the spread of drugs.
In a written instruction made public on Wednesday ahead of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking which falls on June 26, Xi called on authorities to be aware of the danger of drugs and adopt forceful measures to wipe them out.
China still faces a grave situation in drug control, Xi wrote, adding that drug taking, trafficking, planting and manufacturing should all be targeted amid comprehensive measures to control drugs.
Premier Li Keqiang, who wrote an instruction to drug control authorities recently, also underscored the importance of controlling drugs, which he labeled a "common enemy to humanity."
Li called for high attention in drug control, and urged practical international cooperation to contain the spread of drugs.
