A former official with the local security bureau in Changsha, Hunan province, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for helping an inmate escape, Changsha Evening News reported.
Zhu Gang, former chief of the Tianxing branch of the Changsha National Security Bureau, used a letter of introduction he wrote himself to have Wang Bin released from Xingcheng Prison in Changsha on Oct 29, 2012.
The letter said Wang's case would be tried six months later. In April 2013, Zhu extended that period for another six months. Thanks to Zhu's efforts, Wang escaped to Indonesia.
In June 2013, an investigation of Zhu began. On June 12, 2014, he was sentenced to imprisonment for one year and three months.
