Chinese police are facing a tough task in containing drug-related crimes, due to the spread of unconventional methods in drug trafficking such as mail delivery services.

According to a Thursday statement from the Ministry of Public Security's Border Control Department, border patrol forces have seized 3,653 kg of drugs in 2014, a 61-percent year-on-year increase.

Chinese police have also cracked three drug trafficking cases involving cross-border cartels, with the help of police forces from Myanmar and Vietnam, said the statement.

But unconventional drug trafficking methods are making the war on drugs more difficult. In one case, police found clues from a courier receipt and busted a cartel sending drugs via mail. The criminals hid the drugs in computers being delivered.

Also on Thursday, which is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, China launched its first official drug control website, nncc626.com. It is jointly operated by the China National Narcotics Control Commission, China Narcotics Control Foundation and Xinhua News Agency.

The website will publish information on the war against drugs, such as details of relevant laws and government policies, as well as news of drug-related criminality.

China's Supreme People's Court announced on Wednesday that 39,762 people were sentenced for drug-related crimes in the first five months of 2014, with the number up 27.8 percent year on year.
