Xu Jie, a former senior official in charge of public petitions, was expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for discipline violations, said the top discipline inspection agency here Friday.

Investigations found that Xu, former deputy chief of the State Bureau for Letters and Calls, took the advantage of his post to seek profits for other individuals and organizations, asked and accepted a huge amount of bribe, said a statement from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the CPC.

He was also responsible for serious discipline violations of the bureau's reception department and found committing adultery, the statement said.

The CCDI has handed over his case to prosecutors for suspected infringement of law, it added.

Xu was put under investigation for serious law and discipline violations in November last year.
