Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Friday said the Chinese mainland will continue to develop the cross-Strait ties with Taiwan compatriots when meeting with Taipei mayor Hao Lung-bin.

"We will continue to join with Taiwan compatriots to reinforce and deepen the common political basis of adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to 'Taiwan independence'," Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said during the meeting at the Great Hall of the People.

Moreover, he expressed his hope that Hao, also a vice chairman of Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party, will continue to work for the promotion of the political mutual trust between the KMT and the Communist Party of China as well as communication between Taipei and mainland cities.

Hao said cross-Strait peace should not be held back by difficulties, and people in Taiwan and the mainland should both entertain the belief that the two sides come from the same nation and share the same culture.
