Two Chinese naval vessels are searching for five fishermen who went missing after their boat sank in waters near the Diaoyu Islands on Friday morning, according to a source with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.

Ten people were aboard the trawler Minxiayu 01003, which took on water while it was fishing. Five of them have been rescued by a nearby vessel.

Two military vessels from China's East Sea Fleet, Yiyang and Sanming, have arrived at the scene to rescue the missing sailors, according to the source.

Meanwhile, two China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, Haijing 2146 and Haijing 2102, which are on a patrol mission around the Diaoyu Islands, have also arrived at the scene to join in search and rescue, according to a statement released late Friday by the CCG.
