New crash-proof pillars to prevent vehicles crashing onto pavements have been installed along pavement entrances on Chang'an Avenue, the Beijing News reported.
The stainless steel pillars, silver with orange stripes, are 60 centimeters in height and positioned one meter apart to ensure pedestrians can pass but vehicles cannot. There is expected to be 900 pillars in place when the project finishes.
