A woman in Beijing was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for endangering public safety when she attempted to commit suicide by driving a car containing a can of gas into a power pole, Beijing Times reported on Thursday.
The woman, surnamed Li, 30, had an affair with a married man for six years, and the couple has a daughter. The man, surnamed Lin, did not keep a promise he made to divorce his wife and marry Li. The two often quarreled and Li lost hope.
In September 2013, Li placed a can of gas in her car and phoned police requesting they bring Lin to her, and threatening to detonate the gas on a street.
Police quickly went to where Li was to attempt to dissuade her, but she then drove the car into a power pole. Police removed Li from her damaged car and took her into detention.
The court of first instance sentenced Li to three years imprisonment and she has appealed the judgment to a higher court.
