A woman successfully gave birth to twins on a plane during a domestic flight, local media reported on Sunday.
Chen Mei began experiencing labor pains about two hours into her Air China flight from Beijing to Zhanjiang, Guangdong province.
The cabin crew of Flight 1877 set up a makeshift maternity ward in first class but were unable to find a doctor among passengers.
The twins would not wait, and came into the world about 10,000 meters above it.
With the blessings of all other passengers aboard, pilots made a detour to nearby Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to provide more immediate medical treatment to the mother and babies.
Women more than 32 weeks pregnant cannot board a commercial flight, according to Chinese aviation regulations.
Chen had provided documents showing she was only at 30 weeks and in good health.
