A woman serving 15 days in detention for using heroin claimed she became hooked in an clumsy intervention to help her husband quit.
Wang Wen (pseudonym) was detained after police spotted her looking to purchase drugs on the streets of Wenling, Zhejiang province early on July 12. She later tested positive for heroin.
Wang told officers she had been using drugs for over half a year as a result of trying to help her husband quit his own heroin addiction.
Wang said she discovered her husband's drug use after the couple married in 2011. She claims her husband stopped in order to have a child but started up again after Wang gave birth.
She then took heroin several times over two months and quit to demonstrate her husband lacked willpower, but later became addicted.
Wang expressed concern because her 2-year-old daughter now insists on breast milk only.
"You have been using drugs for so long that your breast milk has been contaminated," a police officer told Wang.
