Overseas Chinese in San Francisco plan to build China's first overseas anti-Japanese war memorial in September 2015, also the 70th anniversary of the war's victory.
This memorial, to be named "Pacific War Memorial Hall," was advocated and sponsored by an overseas Chinese entrepreneur Fang Libangqin. Fang said this memorial will be built in San Francisco's Chinatown. Many photographs and written data revealing Japanese military's atrocity will be displayed and showed to visitors.
Fang said she believes Americans fought alongside the Chinese during World War II. She hopes this portion of Chinese history will be permeated to the US society through this memorial. However, some people worry this behavior will turn the United States into a publicity base for anti-Japanese sentiment.
Fang appealed to every Chinese person around the world for a one-dollar contribution. So far, 65,000 dollars have been collected.
Fang was famous for her successful acquisition of The San Francisco Observer and generous donations to many top universities in the United States.
