Chinese ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng on Saturday donated necessities and funds to Jakarta Social Welfare Coordinating Agency, showing goodwill to the locals in Indonesia, a country with the largest population of muslims in the world.

Xie Feng, new Chinese ambassador to Indonesia, conveyed firstly his best wishes to the Indonesian muslims who are now practicing their religious ritual during the month of Ramadan in his speech in the donation ceremony.

By mentioning that the over 20 million Chinese muslims whose freedom of religious belief and tradition are fully respected and protected, Xie Feng emphasized the common ground that China and Indonesia both share. "Same as the Indonesian muslim brothers and sisters, Chinese muslims are also experiencing the mind purification during the fasting month peacefully," said Xie Feng.

The contact between the muslims from China and Indonesia dating back to a long time ago has become an important part of the rapidly growing bilateral relationship, Xie said. "China welcomes more Indonesian friends to visit China, in an effort to enhance mutual understanding and friendship," He added.

During the ceremony, Xie Feng handed over the funds to acting Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, as well as other necessities including rice, oil and other foodstuff.

Donation during the Ramadan has become an annual practice by the Chinese embassy as a way to convey the Chinese people's wishes to the Indonesian people. Last year, more than 1,000 boxes of foodstuff were donated across Jakarta.
