Typhoon Matmo will make a landfall in the eastern Chinese mainland on Wednesday after sweeping across Taiwan on Tuesday night, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) forecast.
Typhoon Matmo, the 10th typhoon to affect China this year, is moving northwest at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour and will strengthen to level 14 to 16 when it hits Taiwan with winds of up to 52 meters per second.
The NMC predicted it will make a landfall again in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces between afternoon and night on Wednesday after passing the island, and skirt northward along the coast.
Regions including Shanghai, Anhui and Shandong will be affected by downpours up to 400 mm.
Flood control authorities have initiated response measures.
