Free condoms not worth the wait

An online initiative in Kunming, Yunnan Province designed to distribute free condoms to those too bashful to purchase them in person has locals frustrated over slow delivery times.

The free condom website was erected in December 2013 in order to encourage safe sex among those too shy to purchase them from a dispenser or a local store, family planning officials said on Monday.

Though the service boasts a two-day delivery time, eager residents claim it takes up to 10 days to receive the government-issued rubbers.

"It's quite inconvenient to buy condoms online. It'd be better to just buy them locally," a local resident said.

A total 31,270 condoms had been shipped over the past six months, officials said. The site charges a 5-yuan($0.8) delivery fee for each order.
