While harsh cold winters give Northeast China's Harbin its nickname of "Ice City," summer brings it another title: "Music City." Since 1961, the city has held an annual music festival during the summer season, a time when the weather in the city is still cool and refreshing and perfect for outdoor concerts.
This year is no exception, as next month the 32nd Harbin Summer Music Concert will storm the city from August 6-15, according to a press announcement released by festival organizers, the Ministry of Culture and the Harbin city government, on Friday.
During the festival, renowned orchestras such as the British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and foreign troupes from four countries will perform at venues like music halls and public squares. Chinese original musical Jane Eyre directed by Wang Xiaoying and performed by the Hangzhou Theatre troupe will be staged at Harbin's Huanqiu Theatre for two nights.
In addition, the well-known Schoenfeld International String Competition will take place in the city from August 18 to 25.
