HK Customs seizes 3.5 mln HKD worth of illicit cigarettes

Hong Kong Customs officers Saturday seized 1.3 million cigarettes, worth 3.5 million HK dollars (about 451,613 US dollars), with a duty potential of about 2.5 million HK dollars.

Customs officers found the cigarettes concealed in 82 carton boxes loaded with other goods on the incoming cross-boundary vehicle declared to have DVD players at Lok Ma Chau Control Point.

A 38-year-old driver was arrested for smuggling cigarettes.
