A college junior in Liaoning province struggling to pay tuition fees hit a 800,000-yuan ($129,931) jackpot in the provincial invoice lottery on August 8, media reported Sunday.

The Shenyang taxation bureau confirmed Ying Ying (pseudonym) had won the sum from a scratch-off ticket she had received after paying her 5,800-yuan school tuition.

Ying Ying's family is overwhelmed by the sudden stroke of luck after scrimping and saving in order to pay her tuition for the fall semester.

Her family at first believed the phone call from the taxation bureau informing them of the prize to be a scam.

This marks the third time in two years a college student has won an invoice lottery, according to the report.

The government began issuing lottery tickets in order to compel consumers to demand receipts to battle tax evasion.
