Hotels in China are struggling to make a profit, Economic Daily in Beijing reported.
According to a report from the China National Tourism Administration, total revenue of star-rated hotels in China in 2013 reached 229.3 billion yuan ($37 billion), a drop of 13.73 billion yuan from 2012.
Total revenue of five-star hotels in China last year reached 76.1 billion yuan, an 884-million-yuan decrease. Revenue for three-star hotels dropped by 6 billion last year, and four-star hotels 5.3 billion yuan.
According to insiders, a drop in spending at hotel restaurants has affected most of the three- and four-star hotels in China.
